Zodiac sign calculator FAQ
Everything you need to know about signs, birthday ranges, cusps, and what a Sun sign can (and can't) tell you.
How do I find my zodiac sign by birthday?
Choose your birth month and day in the calculator above. It uses the 12 conventional Western tropical zodiac Sun-sign date ranges to return a likely sign instantly. You don't need to create an account or enter your email.
What are the zodiac signs in order?
The traditional order begins with Aries, followed by Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. The cycle starts at the March equinox in tropical astrology, rather than on January 1.
What if my birthday is on the cusp between two signs?
If you were born near a sign's conventional first or last day, a simple month/day calculator may be uncertain. The Sun changes zodiac signs at a precise moment that varies with year and time zone. An exact astronomical birth chart needs birth year, time, and location.
What zodiac sign is January?
Most January birthdays are Capricorn (approximately December 22–January 19) or Aquarius (approximately January 20–February 18). Enter the exact day rather than relying on the month alone.
What zodiac sign is February 29?
February 29 is conventionally Pisces in Western tropical Sun-sign calendars. February 29 occurs only in leap years, and it is supported by this calculator.
What is the difference between a Sun, Moon, and Rising sign?
Your Sun sign reflects the zodiac position of the Sun at birth; the Moon sign refers to the Moon's position; and the Rising sign (ascendant) is the zodiac sign appearing on the eastern horizon at the time and location of birth. Moon and Rising signs cannot be determined reliably from a month and day alone.
Are zodiac signs based on birth month or birth date?
Western Sun signs are usually identified using a birthday date range, not just a month. For example, August birthdays span both Leo and Virgo, while December birthdays span Sagittarius and Capricorn.
What are the four zodiac elements?
Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius; Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn; Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius; and Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Elements are interpretive categories in astrology, not scientific personality types.
What do cardinal, fixed, and mutable signs mean?
In traditional astrology, cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are associated with initiating, fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) with persistence, and mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) with adaptability.
Can my zodiac sign tell me my soulmate?
Not scientifically. Compatibility claims come from astrological interpretation rather than demonstrated relationship prediction. For entertainment, you can explore popular match patterns using our free Soulmate Finder or Love Compatibility Calculator.
Does my zodiac sign change every year?
For most birthdays, the common sign remains the same. However, exact Sun-sign transitions can land on different local dates depending on year and time zone, so cusp dates may be assigned differently by simplified calendars.
Is astrology scientifically proven?
No reliable scientific evidence shows that zodiac signs determine an individual's personality or romantic compatibility. Our readings are created for fun, self-expression, and sharing, not as factual diagnoses or predictions.
